Immutability

Protect your data.

Immutability means that once recorded, a transaction can no longer be modified. It is "frozen" forever. If an error occurs, the only solution is to add a transaction to correct it, but the original remains visible.

Security and retention

Ensure reliability.

Security and Retention guarantee that your payment data is recorded reliably and cannot be falsified. They are protected against any fraudulent modification or deletion attempts, and are stored in a way that makes them available to the tax administration.

Archiving

Preserve for the future.

Archiving ensures long-term data retention. This guarantees that in case of an audit, you are able to provide all past transactions. They are stored in conditions that preserve their integrity and reliability for several years.

The professionals concerned

The professionals concerned

The law on point-of-sale software is a technical subject, but its principle is simple. You are concerned if you are a professional:

  • Subject to VAT
  • Using point-of-sale software (or billing software including the recording of transactions with individual clients)

In summary, if you are an animal professional (veterinarians, groomers, boarding kennels, breeders, etc.) subject to VAT or if you collect payments via point-of-sale software or a billing system, the law applies to you.

The objective is to secure your business while ensuring tax compliance.

Frequently asked questions

NF525 is a French certification for payment and billing software. It is issued by an accredited body (AFNOR/LNE). Its main objective is to fight VAT fraud by ensuring that transaction data (sales) is immutable, secured and archived.
The law concerns companies using point-of-sale software (or billing software including a part that allows recording transactions with individual customers). These companies must therefore:
  • Verify that their software is certified by an accredited body such as INFOCERT with the NF525 certification.
  • Request an official certificate from their publisher.
  • Update quickly if their software no longer meets the new requirements.
The risks are:
  • A fine of €7,500 and 30 days to comply, which may result in the rejection of the accounting.
  • Pay all rights corresponding to non-compliant revenues plus an 80% penalty for fraudulent practice.
Compliance is attested by a certificate from the software publisher. It must mention either certification by an accredited body (such as Infocert or LNE), or proof of commitment to this certification.
